Principal’s Opening Speech in the ‘English in the Age of AI’ – Summer Experiential Engagement Program at HKUST

 

Good morning, Dr. Leung, Dr. Wong, respected colleagues, and my dear students,

 

It is a joy and privilege to stand here today at the opening of the Program ‘English in the Age of AI’, the very first collaboration between the English Department of CCC Kei San Secondary School and Centre of Language Education of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. This program marks a milestone for our school, and more importantly, it is a special opportunity for you — our students — to taste university life while strengthening your English and exploring how artificial intelligence can transform the way you learn.

 

 

Over the coming week, 30 of our Form 5 students will immerse themselves in a genuine English environment — attending lessons, engaging with tutors, and completing projects entirely in English. This experience is not only about practising language skills, but also about building confidence, creativity, and independence.

 

A strong foundation in English is essential for achieving good results in the public examination ahead. It is the gateway to entering university, furthering your studies, and ultimately realizing your dreams. By excelling in English, you open doors to opportunities both here in Hong Kong and across the world.

 

At Kei San, I often challenge you to dream big, start small, act fast. This program is the perfect chance to live out that motto:

 

* Dream big — envision how mastering English and AI can lead you to higher education and global opportunities.

* Start small — take each lesson, each project, and each conversation as a step toward stronger HKDSE results and your future goals.

* Act fast — seize every moment this week, participate actively, and push yourselves beyond your comfort zones.

 

Artificial intelligence is reshaping education. With AI, you can practise interactively, receive personalized feedback, and learn in ways that adapt to your needs. By embracing AI in English learning, you are preparing yourselves not only to succeed in exams, but also to thrive in a world where technology and creativity go hand in hand.

 

I am deeply grateful to the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology for the thoughtful arrangements, and especially to our alumnus, Dr. Nick Wong. His vision and dedication have made this collaboration possible, and his example reminds us that true education is about giving back and lifting others up.

 

My dear students, let this week inspire you to aim high, take steady steps, and act with determination. May your efforts in English and beyond lead you to future advancement, success, and the fulfillment of your dreams. I look forward to sharing your learning outcomes and celebrating your achievements at the graduation ceremony one week from now.
